Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 “Pine Green”: the colour of the Alpine forests comes to Andorra

Some new releases are a change of colour and little else. Others also say something. The new Alpine Eagle 41 debuts an original “Pine Green” dial and, with it, a very specific commitment: part of the proceeds from its sale is donated to the Alpine Eagle Foundation, dedicated to preserving the Alps and their biodiversity.

A green that comes from the mountains

“Pine Green” joins the palette Alpine Eagle has long used to name its dials —Aletsch Blue, Bernina Grey, Pitch Black—, all drawn from the real colours of the Alpine landscape. This one evokes the forests that appear in summer, when the melting snow gives way to a deep greyish-green mantle of vegetation.

The dial keeps the radiating pattern evoking the eye of an eagle, the collection’s signature. Against that texture, the rhodium-plated hour-markers and hands enhanced with Grade X1 Super-LumiNova® deliver a clean, perfectly legible contrast, including in the dark.

The date sits between 4 and 5 o’clock on a green disc matching the dial, so it breaks neither the symmetry of the markers nor the harmony of the whole. A small detail that says a great deal about the collection’s philosophy.

Lucent Steel™: the steel only Chopard makes

The 41 mm case is made entirely of Lucent Steel™, the Maison’s exclusive alloy. This is not marketing dressing: it is a material with figures behind it.

• 80 % recycled content, in keeping with Chopard’s Journey to Sustainable Luxury.
• 223 Vickers hardness: 50 % more resistant to abrasion than conventional watchmaking steels.
• Anti-allergenic, with properties comparable to surgical steel, making it highly dermo-compatible.
• A crystal structure of superior homogeneity, responsible for its uniquely shimmering light effects.

The finishing plays on contrast: vertically satin-brushed caseband with polished chamfers, satin-brushed bezel with eight functional indexed screws —functional, not decorative— and a crown engraved with the compass rose.

Chopard 01.01-C: precision certified, not promised

At the heart of the watch beats the self-winding Chopard 01.01-C calibre, developed and assembled in the Manufacture’s own workshops and visible through the sapphire caseback.

It is certified by the COSC, the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. It is worth knowing what that means: the COSC certifies neither the brand nor the complete watch, but each movement, one by one, after fifteen days of testing in five positions and three temperatures. Hence the word “Chronometer” on the dial.

It offers a 60-hour power reserve —leave it on Friday and it is still running on Sunday— and features a stop-seconds function, which halts the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out and lets you set the time to the exact second.

From a 1970s watch to a contemporary icon

The collection, launched in 2019, is the modern reinterpretation of the St. Moritz, the first watch created by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele —today Co-President of Chopard— in the late 1970s. It was devised by three generations of the Scheufele family, and it shows: it respects the original without settling for nostalgia.

A round case with stylised raised sides, a screwed bezel, a textured dial in deep hues and an integrated metal bracelet with tapering links and a triple folding clasp.

A watch that funds the conservation of the Alps

The Alpine Eagle Foundation was set up in 2020 by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele together with specialists and lovers of the mountains, such as falconer Jacques-Olivier Travers, creator of the Parc des Aigles du Léman, and Ronald Menzel, director of the Freedom conservation movement dedicated to protecting birds of prey. Its motto is simple: preserving the Alps.

The Foundation currently supports a programme to reintroduce the white-tailed eagle around Lake Geneva, as well as a scientific mission analysing whether eagles and bearded vultures can memorise potentially lethal obstacles in their territory —wind turbines or other human installations— and modify their behaviour accordingly.

Chopard contributes directly to funding these programmes through several watches in the collection, including this Alpine Eagle 41 with its Pine Green dial.
