13 May NEW OMEGA SPEEDMASTER MOONWATCH 2021
OMEGA revolutionizes the watchmaking market and celebrates its legacy with the new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 2021. The OMEGA house model is a totally unprecedented novelty: the Moonwatch incorporates revolutionary changes at a technical level, while recovering the aesthetic DNA of the classic. 321.
The legacy:
Surely the Speedmaster will tell you something. In 1957, OMEGA launched the first Speedmaster model, incorporating, for the first time, a tachymeter in the bezel. Originally developed for car racing, the tachymeter allows the speed of a moving body to be calculated.
It is known that the OMEGA brand has always been closely related to the space race. On July 21, 1969, Neil Armstrong took the first step on the Moon with a Speedmaster on his wrist. And to this day, this milestone continues to be remembered in OMEGA’s history, even being replicated today.
On April 22, the Frenchman Thomas Pesquet, who took off for the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Alpha mission, was also wearing one of the Speedmaster models from OMEGA.
This model differs, however, from all the others, becoming one-of-a-kind watch.
Technical. differences:
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 2021 consists of a silicon coil that guarantees antimagnetism of up to no more and no less than 15,000 GAUS.
The Moonwatch consta d’una espiral en silici que garanteix un anti magnetisme de fins a res menys que 15 000 GAUS.
It also consists of a coaxial exhaust, working with a system of three staggered vanes. This element is essential when it comes to providing greater precision, stability and durability to the watch. This also provides less friction, thus considerably extending the good maintenance of this model.
The power reserve also changes: it increases from 48 hours in the 1861 and reaches 50 hours in the 3861.
But if there is something that really characterizes the new Omega Speedmaster 2021, it is its pinpoint precision. The new caliber 3861 has a tolerance that ranges between 0 and +5, differing from caliber 1861, which is between -1 and +11. In our day to day, this translates into an accuracy of between 0 and 5 seconds. Punctuality and time can no longer escape our control.
Honestly, with this watch it’s really hard to be late!
Certifications:
The precision with which this watch is endowed has been officially certified by various Swiss organizations. These take into account factors related to both the stopwatch and the master chonometer.
- The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 2021 is COSC certified, issued by an independent body founded in 1975 by various Swiss brands. The COSC certifies the precision of the movements of the watches, whose interval must be between -4 and +6 seconds per day.
- The Moonwatch 2021 also has the METAS certificate, which is issued by the highest official authority of the Swiss Government in terms of measurements. The METAS, in addition to certifying the precision of the mechanism and the watch in operation, also certifies the power reserve, the watertightness and the resistance to magnetic fields.
Aesthetic differences:
The new Speedmaster also has several aesthetic differences compared to the other watches in the collection, making it a unique model.
These aesthetic features are variable, since there are two available models of the new Moonwatch 2021: the Hesalite model and the sapphire model.
The bracelet is undoubtedly one of the most significant features of the new model, and one of the most visible differences of the watch. The new bracelet is a five-link screwed construction. The clasp is deployable, and consists of the logo engraved on it. The bracelet has been aesthetically designed to ensure greater comfort, and consists of a striped finish and two micro-adjustment positions.
Unlike the 1861 termination of (20mm to 18mm), the 3861 bracelet has a tapered termination (from the 20mm lugs / lugs to 15mm at the clasp). In addition, while in the Hesalite model the bracelet is completely brushed, in the sapphire model the central links between the bracelet meshes are chromed.
When it comes to the dial, that of the new 3861 version is vintage-inspired stepped. The Hesalite model retains the OMEGA logo in the center of the glass. Being “transferred”, we can observe in this certain relief.
On the other hand, in the sapphire model no relief can be seen, since the logo has been “applied” to the dial.
The Moonlight 2021’s bezel appears darker and features a dot over 90 called the D.O.N. This is a way of paying homage to the earlier Speedmasters of the 70s.
OMEGA once again surpasses itself with the new 3861 Speedmaster by achieving a slimmer case than its 1861 predecessor: the new generation stands at 13.55mm compared to 14.3mm for the old one.
The back cover is also a singularity. In the Hesalite model it is covered, while in the sapphire it is transparent, exposing the machinery. This model is known as “the sapphire sandwich”, since both the case and both sides of the dial are covered by this material.
Denominations:
This watch is also known under other names that provide additional information about the model in question. Thus, we can find names such as “Co-Axial Master Chronometer Professional Moonwatch” and “Flight-Qualified by NASA in 1965 For All Tripled Space Missions
Conclusion:
The legendary Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 3861 collection is preparing to make history once again with the launch of this new model. The Moonlight will undoubtedly be remembered for its indisputable technical advances in terms of precision and accuracy, and for its aesthetic revolution, recovering the charm of vintage pieces.
